Skincare Tips for Your Holiday Vacation

Traveling to paradise for the holidays? Although taking off from your regular routine can help to ease stress before entering the New Year, traveling can certainly take a toll on your body - especially your skin! Keep your skin healthy and hydrated with these five skincare tips for your upcoming holiday getaway:

Pack Moisturizer. Bring a travel size tube of moisturizer in your carry on bag and apply even before hopping aboard the plane. When you travel high in the sky, the altitude changes, which can cause your skin to dry out. Beat dryness by applying moisturizer day and night before and during travel.

Avoid Makeup. You heard us right! Even if you’re one of those women who never leaves the house without makeup, we promise that this small sacrifice can do wonders for your skin! At the least, avoid foundations and powders while traveling, as these products can dry out your face. Instead, try a tinted moisturizer or just stick with a little bit of cream blush for your cheeks.

Apply Facial Oil. No matter your skin type, facial oil can combat that dry skin you suffer from when traveling. For optimal results, apply this oil every hour or so on the plane to avoid loss of moisture from the change in altitude.

Drink water. We know that drinking water is wonderful for your skin (and your overall health). But when you're traveling for the holidays, be sure to drink more than you typically would and avoid excessive amounts of alcohol. Your skin will thank you later!

Sunscreen. Going somewhere tropical? If so, be careful when being exposed to the sun, as UV rays can penetrate and damage even the deepest layers of your skin. Sunscreen is your best defense against sunburn for the holidays.

Ways to Curb Your Appetite

Do you struggle with cravings? You’re not alone! Overeating is a common problem that many of us indulge in, especially around the holiday season. The solution is to find healthy tricks that regulate your diet and keep you feeling full longer.

Feel like giving up hope on your body’s temptation for sweet cravings? Hold right there! Below are a few tips to help curb your appetite and get you back to feeling like your healthy self again:

Don’t skip breakfast. We often hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But is it actually true? Turns out that those who skip out on breakfast tend to have more body weight and insulin resistance, which makes you crave more sweets. With that being said, eating a solid breakfast can help you consume less calories later in the day and get your metabolism going.

Keep healthy snacks at hand. You’re more likely to resist binge eating if you carry around light, healthy snacks, such as almonds and vegetable sticks (even a 100 calorie pack can help). If you skip out on healthy snacks in between meals, you’re more likely to eat a larger lunch or dinner than your body needs. And you know what they say: your eyes are certainly bigger than your stomach!

Create a workout routine. Your diet might start in the kitchen, but it doesn’t stop there! Don’t forget to create a fitness routine for yourself, so that you can get food off your mind and lessen your appetite - even if that means just going for a brief jog or taking the stairs to work or at the mall.

Pack on the protein. Lean proteins, such as chicken breast and fish are beneficial foods that contain lots of minerals and vitamins that your body can use resourcefully. But when you skip on protein and jump on sugary drinks and refined carbs, you crave even more of it.

We hope that these tips help you keep control of your food cravings. But let’s face it, sometimes it’s more easier said than done. That is why we offer personalized medical weight loss programs to help you lose 10 to 50 pounds and keep it off! To learn more about this body treatment, click here.

Most Common Skin Problems in Winter

Skin not feeling its best? Winter is usually that time of year when your skin is most vulnerable and needs a little extra attention. Between redness and flaking, below are four common issues that can leave your skin feeling at its worst and what you can do about it:

Red nose - With all the dry air you’re exposed to during the winter months, you may find yourself blowing your nose more often. As a result, your nose might experience some unsightly redness. The cure? A little hydrating cream should do the trick, especially if your skin is cracking.

Rough hands - When the weather is cold, the skin on your hands doesn’t have as many oil glands, which means your body finds it more difficult to defend against cold, dry air. Before heading outside or into bed, apply a glycerin-based hand cream and slip on some gloves to hold in the moisture - after some time, your hands will feel soft and hydrated once again.

Scaly legs - Like your hands, your legs also don’t have as many oil glands during the winter. What that means is your legs get rough more quickly. The trick? Take a hot shower and let the warm water hydrate your skin. Once you hop out of the shower, apply multiple layers of your favorite healing lotion.

Itchy skin - If you already suffer from eczema, chances are your condition can exacerbate. But even if you don’t deal with dry skin conditions regularly, you can bet that the heat in your home and the dry air outside will steal your natural oils and leave you with flaky, itching skin. Petrolium jelly is an effective remedy that can treat dry skin with just a few ingredients.

Questions to Ask Before Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Can’t stand shaving your legs every day? We don't blame you! Whether you have a stubborn patch of hair you’d rather do without or you’re tired of spending money replacing your dull razor blade, permanent laser hair removal treatment might be a great option for you!

If you have an appointment lined up or you're deciding whether or not you should go for it, you might have a few questions on your mind about the process. Don’t fret - we’ve got your answers below!

How does it work?
Most permanent laser hair removal treatments involve the use of an intense pulsed light (IPL) to get rid of the cells responsible for growing those unwanted, new hairs. This IPL spreads light over a wide area of the skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result! However, ask your trained technician how they approach the treatment.

How do I prep?

Knowing the proper steps to prep your skin is important for best results. For example, your technician might tell you to have the hair shaved on the desired area of removal, or to make sure your skin is also clean for optimal results. If you have hard-to-reach areas, don’t worry - a technician can always help you.

How many treatments do I need?
Each individual’s needs are unique, which means the number of treatments you will need can vary. However, the average person will need about 4 to 6 treatments. With that being said, ask when it’s a good time to start treatment and when you should expect to complete the process.

Is there any downtime required?
Typically, there is no recovery time needed after permanent laser hair removal. However, it’s crucial to understand your unique situation and if there are steps you need to take or tasks you should avoid post-treatment.

Want smooth skin in time for summer? Start your treatment now! At Radiance Medspa, we offer a personalized approach to permanent laser hair removal to ensure that each patient is 100 percent cared for at satisfied with results.
