How to Reduce Facial Redness

Feeling cursed with facial redness? You’re not alone! Many of us suffer from skin conditions, like dermatitis, especially when the climate becomes more dry during the cooler months. But despite the cause of redness, there are a few simple cures to neutralize your skin’s pigmentation:

Facial masks. Although there is no scientific evidence to prove that facial masks can cure redness, many have turned to this home remedy for hundreds of years. Two of the most popular types are cucumber and oatmeal masks. If you choose the cucumber remedy, make sure the cucumbers are cool right out of the fridge. And if you decide oatmeal is better for your redness (especially for eczema), pour a few teaspoons of pure oatmeal into your hands and mix with water before applying to your skin.

Diet change. Making a few changes to your diet can have a significant impact on your skin. To get rid of your facial redness, stay away from spicy foods and drinks that are extremely hot. Instead, try fish oil supplements and probiotics. It also helps to eat more natural foods, such as apple, coconut, melon, spinach (and cucumber, of course).

Chemical peels. If home remedies aren’t doing the trick, it might be a smart idea to look into chemical peels. This type of treatment is designed to safely cure acne, sun damage, pigmentation, and other causes of facial redness. Chemical peels are one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures out there today. Why? Because they’re quick, painless, and most effective.

Are you looking to get rid of pesky redness? If so, chemical peels might be the answer for you! We have many different types of peels that can be used together or separately to correct skin pigmentation. At Radiance Medspa, we believe that everyone’s skin should be treated uniquely, which is why we offer a personalized skincare approach for all of our clients.

What Causes Wrinkles?

Do you find yourself searching for the latest creams and serums to erase those pesky fine wrinkles? We know how you feel - the process of aging isn’t an easy one. You want your youthful-looking skin back, but you’re not sure how to effectively do so. Luckily, wrinkles are a common part of aging and if you understand how they happen, you might be able to smooth them out:

To know what causes wrinkles, you must first understand the three layers of skin:

Layers of skin

Epidermis - The outer layer of skin that aids as protection from the outside environment. The epidermis has cells that move from the bottom layer to the top and build up a large amount of keratin, developing a tough outer shell.

Dermis - The second layer of the skin that contains the structural elements of the skin and connective tissue. There are several types of tissue that serve different purposes, such as collagen, which gives the skin its elasticity.

Subcutaneous Tissue - The bottom layer of skin, which contains fat cells and provides insulation to the body. This make the skin look more full.

Why skin wrinkles
Thinning skin - As you age, the epidermal cells in your skin become thin and less sticky, which causes your skin to lose moisture rather than keep it in. As a result, your skin becomes more dry. And because epidermal cells decrease with age, your skin is less able to repair itself as quickly, which causes wrinkles to stay.

Decreasing Collagen - Not only does the dermal layer thin as you age, but your body also starts to produces less collagen. This means that your skin loses its elasticity, which causes skin to wrinkle and sag.

Shrinking Fat Cells - When the fat cells get smaller as you mature, your wrinkles and sags can become more noticeable. This is because a fat cell cannot fill in for other layers of the skin to create a more full appearance.

Now that you know how the three layers of skin can affect wrinkles, you can take action to get rid of them if you wish to. At Radiance Medspa, we offer several skincare services, including micro-dermal needling and wrinkle fillers to help you achieve a more smooth appearance!

Top Anti-Aging Foods

Do you want to keep your skin looking radiant and beautiful? We’re right there with you! Radiant-looking skin is something everyone wishing they can hold onto. Although aging is a natural progression, there are a few steps you can take to slow down the process of aging skin.

The first step is making small changes to your diet. Below are a few foods to help you eat your way to healthy, glowing skin:

Water. Water is a good choice for many reasons. Not only does it benefit your internal organs, but it also helps boost the elasticity in your skin that causes wrinkling. So what’s the number one secret to anti-aging? H20, and lots of it!

Vitamin C. When production of collagen in your skin starts to slow, that’s when it’s time to start consuming more Vitamin C. Oranges are an obvious choice. Other foods include red pepper, broccoli, and grapefruit.

Anthocyanin. This is a compound that gives fruit that dark color. But more importantly it’s an antioxidant that neutralizes cell-damaging free radicals, such as UV rays. Eating a handful of blueberries as a snack or adding a cupful to your yogurt can help you restore damaged, aging skin.

Healthy fat. Foods like avocados contain a healthy fat known as monounsaturated fat, which helps your skin stay hydrated. It can also help you absorb some of those collagen-producing vitamins you consume. So switch up that high-fat salad dressing for some delicious avocado and a drop of lemon for a healthy kick!

Making a few dietary changes is one way to achieve more youthful-looking skin. Another solution is Ultherapy, a non-surgical procedure designed to lift, tighten, and contour your skin. At Radiance Medspa, we believe that everyone deserves a personalized approach to skincare, which is why we will work with you to find the best method.

Fall Into Fitness

Just because the leaves are changing colors, doesn’t mean you should give up on your workout routine. As a matter of fact, fall is the best season to head outside for exercise - the weather is crisp, the sun is still strong, and the foliage is breathtaking! There are many outdoor activities you can participate in this time of year include the following:

Hiking - Head out for a hike at a local park or a nearby nature trail. Not only is walking one of the most beneficial exercises, but it’s also a great way to simultaneously observe the color-changing leaves. So grab a light jacket, a pair of running shoes, and fall into fitness with this great cardiovascular activity.

Racing - Join a holiday race like the Scarecrow Scramble 5K or the Turkey Trot to get your blood pumping. This is a perfect way to enjoy the fresh fall air either solo or with a group. To learn about more races happening in the Naperville area, click here.

Biking - Bike riding is another type of workout to get you outdoors this season. The best part about biking is that it’s easy on your legs, ankles, and knees, and is easier than running. This means you can go a further distance and burn more calories!

While exercise is beneficial in many ways, it doesn’t always get rid of those deep tissue layers we also call cellulite. At Radiance Medspa, we want to help you look and feel your best, which is why we offer treatments to achieve a smooth appearance.
