What is Ultherapy and How Does it Work?

Nobody likes having loose, saggy skin, but luckily there are plenty of procedures out there to tighten the elasticity that we lose as we get older. If you’re looking for the most advanced, non-invasive solution to tighten up your skin, look no further than Ultherapy!

Ultherapy is an FDA approved, non-surgical treatment that improves the overall texture of your skin. When our collagen production reduces overtime, Ultherapy can come into play and stimulate your collagen, resulting in smoother, tighter skin. This treatment is one of the most beneficial options for those who want to lift the skin around the neck, eyebrow, or under-chin area.

Ultherapy works by safely heating the inner layers of your skin's collagen, which stimulates the growth of tissue and a natural biological reaction that causes the old collagen to thicken and restore - a perfect solution that works on all skin types and colors. One of the greatest parts about Ultherapy is that there is little to no downtime at all, and the results are completely natural!

How to Improve Your Complexion

Let’s face it - most of us rely on products to enhance our complexion. But did you know there are many natural tricks that can help you achieve beautiful glowing skin without the use of chemicals? That’s right, say goodbye to creams, sprays, serums, and hello to these all-natural life-changing beauty hacks you can start using today:

Sleep the right way. Believe it or not, there is a right way to sleep. The answer? Become a back sleeper! This method of sleeping is effective because you will avoid wrinkles that can potentially develop if you sleep on one side of your face. So, if you find yourself waking up on your side, try placing pillows around you to keep your head from rolling over during the night.

Drink lots of water. It may sound simple, but it’s a key reminder! One of the best ways to avoid wrinkles and improve your complexion is to make sure your body has plenty of water. Why? Because a lack of fluids can lead to dehydration, which can ultimately take a toll on your skin.

Go green in the kitchen.
Is your skin tired? The way you can find out is by looking at the color. If it appears pale, then you’re probably dehydrated and need a little green pick-me-up! For an instant boost of hydration (and nutrition), mix 1 green apple, 1 handful of parsley and kale, 2 handfuls of romaine, 3 celery sticks, ½ of a cucumber, juice from ½ of a lemon, and finally 1 ginger. Blend together for a green juice that will re-energize you to the fullest!

Add shine to your hair. How else can you tell if your skin lacks a glow? Take a look at your hair and you’ll find your answer. If your locks looks dull, then your skin probably needs a little TLC. One trick you can try is to mix apple, cider vinegar, and water together in a spray bottle, and then spritz the combo into damp hair. Once it dries, your hair should look lively and so should your complexion!

Why You're Not Losing Belly Fat

So you want to slim down this summer, but you’re having trouble shaking off the extra weight. Don’t worry - you’re not alone! Turns out there are plenty of reasons why your belly fat may be hanging around. From your workout routine to your mental health, below are five situations to consider:

You’re aging. Naturally, as you get older your body goes through some changes. And when your body begins to function differently, you may start to realize that it’s difficult to lose weight. For example, metabolic rates for both men and women may begin to slow down, which makes it difficult to shed belly fat. On top of that, women going through menopause might find it tricky to maintain their desired weight, as the production of estrogen and progesterone slow down.

You’re not doing the right workout. While getting older inevitably leads to changes in the body, the good news is that you can fight it! Working out is one of the best ways to achieve weight loss - just make sure you’re doing the right kind of fitness. Don’t make the mistake of believing you can slim down just by running. In order to get your abs in shape, you need a combination of cardiovascular and weight training

You’re eating the wrong fats. Eating fats can be good for the body, as long as you’re eating the right ones. Saturated fats, like the kinds found in meat and dairy can increase visceral fat. On the other hand, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, such as avocado, omega-3, and salmon can have anti-inflammatory effects on your body, ultimately helping you to lose weight. Be wary, though, as eating too much of any type of fat can work against you. Rule of thumb is to keep everything in moderation!

You’re too stressed. From strict deadlines to taking care of the kids, high levels of stress can make it harder for you to shed those unwanted pounds. And even if you eat a healthy diet, you can still experience the effects of cortisol, a stress hormone that can increase the amount of fat your body hangs onto. So, if you’re taking on too much stress, you’ll benefit from brainstorming ways to either take some off your plate or handle it in a healthy manner.

You’re not getting enough sleep. Catching more Z’s isn’t just about being able to wake up the next morning, it’s also about preventing weight gain. If you sleep less than six hours a night, you might find it more difficult to slim down your waistline. In fact, the National Institute of Health suggests that adults should sleep an average of seven to eight hours per night. Are you falling behind on sleep? If so, then you’ll benefit from catching up starting today!

Doing all the right things, but still not losing belly fat? It’s not always easy, but luckily there are alternatives! At Radiance Medspa, our specialists can help! We offer Permanent Fat Reduction treatments, perfectly tailored to give you the waistline you’ve been dreaming of.

Types of Hair Removal

When it comes to hair removal, the options are endless - shaving, waxing, permanent removal - you name it! With so many methods to choose from, sometimes it’s hard to decide which is right for you. In an attempt to help, we’ve compiled four common types of hair removal and what you need to know about them:

Tweezing

How it works - With the help of a tweezer, you can remove individual hairs from the root.
What you need to know - This method is only ideal for small areas on your face and is not recommended for legs, underarms, or the bikini region. While tweezing can last anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks, you’re more susceptible to getting ingrown hairs.

Shaving
How it works - With the help of a razor, you can cut hairs very close to the skin.
What you need to know - It works best anywhere on your body, but can leave you with ingrown hairs, especially on the bikini area. As far as it’s longevity, you can expect to shave every 1 to 3 days if you plan on keeping your legs looking and feeling smooth.

Waxing
How it works - With the help of a cosmetologist, you can pull hairs out of the root by using wax and cloth strips.
What you need to know - It’s ideal for large regions on the body, including your underarms, legs, face, and bikini region. Be wary of redness, bumps, or even infections - especially if you wax often. To avoid possible side effects, let your hair grow for a few weeks before repeating a wax treatment.

Laser/Pulsed Light
How it works - With the help of a certified technician, a laser emitting a strong beam of light can help destroy the hair follicle at its root.
What you need to know - Laser hair removal is the most effective method for long-term results, with just a few touch-up treatments. While it can take about six treatments to start seeing results, you won’t have to pick up your razor any longer!

At Radiance Medspa, we offer permanent hair removal using intense pulsed light (IPL) to disable the cells responsible for growing new hair. Say goodbye to painful waxing, tedious tweezing, and razor burn for good!

Hyperhidrosis FAQ’s

Do you feel cursed with excessive sweating caused by hyperhidrosis? You’re not alone! It turns out that 3 percent of the population suffers from this disorder. If you’re one of the millions of people that feels confused by the extreme perspiration you experience, we’d like to help.

As your trusted Wheaton skincare and laser clinic, we’ve put together the following FAQ’s to help you better understand hyperhidrosis and the treatments available to you:

What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which a person is prone to excessive and unpredictable sweating. People who suffer from this condition appear to have overactive sweat glands and tend to perspire nearly all the time regardless of their mood or the weather.

Can it be treated?

Through evaluating the causes and triggers of excessive sweating, many patients with this disorder can feel happier and healthier. Treating hyperhidrosis can be achieved through over-the-counter or prescribed antiperspirants, oral medications, microwave destruction of sweat glands, or surgery (typically used as a last resort).

How can Botox help?
Botox is a FDA approved procedure used for treating excessive underarm sweating. Studies suggest that Botox injections can reduce sweat production by 75 percent after only weeks of treatment, helping to improve an overall better quality of life. The great thing about this form of treatment is that it is a non-invasive alternative to surgery with effective results! While Botox is commonly used for cosmetic enhancement, it also has great medical benefits for those who struggle with hyperhidrosis.

Have more questions about how Botox can help? We offer this treatment at our Radiance Medspa Wheaton location and can address all of your concerns.
