How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

Have you dug up your summer shorts yet? If so, you’ve probably been reminded just how difficult the upkeep of shaving can be. Now you booked your very first laser hair removal appointment and you’re probably wondering how to prepare your skin. Just a little effort beforehand can give you the outcome you’ve been dreaming of!

Here are five tips for a smooth treatment:

Shave. You’ll need to shave 24 hours before your appointment. Use a new razor to avoid cuts and just enough shaving foam so you don’t get razor burn and bumps. It may seem tedious, but it’ll be worth it in the long run!

Avoid tanning. You want your skin to be its natural color before walking into your appointment, so avoid sun exposure and even fake tans. Keep in mind that you’ll need to go back for repeated appointments, so avoiding UV rays at the beach this summer will be beneficial to your treatment.

Don’t wax. This goes for plucking hair too! If you do, you’ll remove the root that must be present in the follicle for your laser removal to be a success.

Go deodorant-free. Are you treating underarm hair? Prep for skin to be clean and bare before the appointment. This means you should shy away from using deodorant after hopping out of the shower and shaving. The less moisture, the better your results will be!

Jot down notes. Any medications you’re taking and medical history. Some medications can cause skin sensitivity - you want to be sure it’s safe to proceed with laser treatments. Jotting down notes for your laser hair removal therapist will be helpful.

For optimal results, follow these four tips before walking into your first laser hair removal treatment. Still deciding if laser hair removal is right for you? Radiance Medspa can help!
