Wrinkle Fillers FAQ’s

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging, but who says you have to live with them? There’s a number of fillers and other products out there to give your skin the smooth appearance you desire. In a recent article, plastic surgery, wound care, and healing specialist Dr. David Zachary Martin answers some FAQ’s regarding wrinkle fillers. Here’s his expert advice:

Who is a good candidate for wrinkle filling?
Patients interested in softening facial creases, enhancing shallow contours, plumping lips, and improving the look of scars should highly consider the benefits. You should be in good health and speak with your doctor about any serious medical conditions you may have.

How do fillers work?
First, we need to understand why wrinkles are so noticeable. Wrinkles can be visible when their depressions cast a shadow on the face.  Fillers work to replace lost tissue volume and collagen in the skin, so that the skin is fuller - reducing the shadow.

How long do wrinkle fillers last?
A wrinkle filler can last anywhere from 3-12 months.  Some injectables have longer-lasting results than others.

What are the side effects?
Mild swelling, bruising, numbness, and redness are common side effects experienced after the procedure.  They can take anywhere from hours to a few days to go away.  Results can be seen almost immediately.
